White / milky

The chlorine product matters

Starting calcium hardness

Adding calcium to genuinely low-CH water is different from adding it when calcium hardness was already elevated. The starting measurement matters.

Why cloudiness may remain

Weak return flow, a restricted filter, poor circulation, unresolved chemistry or a very high suspended-particle load can all limit the result.

7. What NOT to add next

Do not chase cloudiness with a second or third chemical

If you do not know why the water changed, adding acid, chlorine, clarifier, alkalinity products or another treatment “just in case” makes diagnosis harder and may create a safety hazard if concentrated pool chemicals come into contact with one another.

Record the exact product and quantity already used, keep chemicals physically separate and test before deciding on another correction.

Simple rule

An unexplained change in water appearance is a reason to test first, not to add another product by guesswork.

8. When the chemical may not be the real problem

The chemical addition may simply expose a circulation or filtration problem. Once more fine material is suspended in the water, a weak system may no longer keep up.

Weak return flow

Low water movement slows product distribution and reduces the amount of cloudy water passing through the filter.

Dirty or restricted filter

A heavily loaded cartridge or media filter may not move or capture water effectively enough to remove the suspended load.

Damaged cartridge

A torn, collapsed or poorly seated filter element can allow fine material to return to the pool.

Incorrect multiport position

An incorrect valve position or internal valve problem can prevent water from following the intended filtration path.

Air or suction restriction
